Mohamed Lekleti Taza, b. 1965

Overview
Mohamed Lekleti was born in Taza, Morocco.
He lives and works in Montpellier. He holds a DEUG in Cinema from the University of Montpellier and a master’s degree in fine arts from the University of Aix-en-Provence.
With a narrative and poetic approach, Mohamed Lekleti’s works carry a profound political, social, and cultural dimension. His art, in constant movement, questions the world, power, the duality of human nature, territorial belonging, immigration, and exile. It operates through a hybridization of different formal, conceptual, and fictional registers. His work transcends the fixed boundaries imposed by canvas or paper by multiplying associations and intertwinings, creating various polysemies, oxymorons, and allegories that blur perceptions and challenge certainties.
These iconographic motifs, among others, are deliberately integrated into his works to provoke reflection and encourage the viewer to explore the multiple dimensions of his artistic message. Through evocative and symbolic imagery, Mohamed Lekleti transcends the limits of verbal language to communicate complex ideas about the human condition and contemporary socio-political issues.

Mohamed Lekleti is one of the emblematic artists of contemporary drawing in France and Morocco. He has participated in numerous exhibitions, including the Palazzo delle Belle Arti in Turin (2012); the Fortress of Salses (MNF), where he explored the notion of borders in “Visa pour un territoire” (2013); the Blachère Foundation in Apt with Fuir (2017); the Paul Valéry Museum in Sète with “Me suis-je égaré” (2018); the Art Center À Cent Mètres du Centre du Monde in Perpignan with “Khamsa” (2019); ISBA in Besançon with “Simorgh” (2020); the Arab World Institute Museum with “Dessins du Monde Arabe” (2021); and La Panacée/MOCCO Museum with “SOL!” (2023). In 2023, his work was showcased at the MAC Lyon in the exhibition “Incarnations: The Body”; in the MNAC Lisbon Collection « Bleu et autres couleurs », at the Mohamed VI Museum in “110 ans, 110 œuvres” from the Fondation Société Générale collection.
