Zoulikha Bouabdellah X Mahi Binebine
Zoulikha Bouabdellah invites Mahi Binebine at the gallery, on the occasion of the release of his latest novel La nuit nous emportera, published by Robert Laffont.
A discussion, moderated by Pascal Odille, Director of the Enseigne des Oudin, will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, as part of an exhibition running from April 9 to 18, 2025, showcasing the works of both artists.
This unprecedented dialogue establishes a connection between two distinct and authoritative artistic realms. Painter, sculptor, and writer, Mahi Binebine reveals a new series of works echoing the recent paintings of Zoulikha Bouabdellah, which explore representations of the body — and particularly the legs — through a visual language rich in mythological and religious references. In these powerful compositions, signs are turned upside down, symbols elude us, and markers blur, inviting the viewer to a sensory and reflective experience.
Zoulikha Bouabdellah is a Algerian French visual artist whose practice combines painting, sculpture, and installations. Her work explores themes of identity, the body, gender, and memory, often using symbols drawn from traditional and religious cultures. She is particularly interested in the forms and gestures associated with the female body, while questioning social and cultural constructs. Her works, powerful and introspective, are marked by a constant search for meaning and representation. She has exhibited in many international institutions and is recognized for her ability to bridge history and contemporaneity.
Mahi Binebine is a Moroccan writer, painter, and sculptor. Known for his novels, including Les Étoiles de Sidi Moumen and La Nuit nous emportera, he explores themes of the human condition, memory, and uprootedness in his writings. His visual art, as well as his sculptures, reflect an aesthetic quest for identity and collective memory, often marked by traditional influences and Mediterranean symbols. His multidisciplinary practice allows him to navigate between literature and visual arts, creating bridges between cultures and forms of expression.
