AMAL ABDENOUR × ZOULIKHA BOUABDELLAH : XEROX ART LUMIÈRE
Presented by lilia ben salah gallery in association with Enseigne des Oudin, this presentation brings together, for the first time in Paris, the work of Amal Abdenour (1931–2020) and Zoulikha Bouabdellah (b. 1977), creating a dialogue between two generations of artists whose practices engage with the image, its materiality and its capacity to preserve and transform memory.
A pioneer of electrography and Copy Art, Amal Abdenour began experimenting with the photocopier in France in 1970. Using processes of fragmentation, distortion and repetition, she transformed the machine into an artistic tool, producing images that explore the body, identity, exile and memory. Her work challenges the idea of the image as a fixed representation, revealing instead its potential for alteration and reinvention.
Working across photography, video, installation and digital media, Zoulikha Bouabdellah examines the ways images shape our understanding of bodies, histories and cultural identities. Her
new series, Artificial Archaeology, draws on personal archives and visual fragments, reconfiguring existing images to explore the relationships between memory, perception and transformation.
Bringing these two practices into conversation, the presentation traces a movement from photocopying to digital image-making. Despite the different technologies and historical contexts in which their works emerge, both artists investigate how images are produced, manipulated and transmitted, and how they carry traces of individual and collective memory. Their works invite us to consider technology not simply as a means of reproduction, but as a medium through which images acquire new meanings.
Presented as part of Xerox Art Lumière, the exhibition is an opportunity to reconsider the continuing relevance of Abdenour’s pioneering experiments alongside Bouabdellah’s contemporary practice.
As part of Une Semaine en Galerie, organized by CPGA, October 17–24, 2026.
