Fakhri El Ghezal | الڨمرة وما شفتهاش (And I couldn't See the Moon)

For this 9th edition, the founders Selma and Sofiane Ouissi, and the co-artistic director Jan Goossens invite the curator Hoor Al Qasimi to take part in the programming of the festival Dream City with the Dream projects.

The collaboration between Selma and Sofiane Ouissi, Hoor Al Qasimi, and Jan Goossens for Dream City 2023 marks a synergy between the complementary and diverse artistic visions.

 

Invited to a residency at L'Art Rue to take part in the 2023 edition of Dream City, Fakhri El Ghezal conceived and presented الڨمرة وما شفتهاش (And I couldn't See the Moon), a complex visual apparatus, combining bleach and ink drawings, manuscripts and video animation. The installation reveals a transversal narrative of sequences in which memory manifests itself through luminous appearances made of chemistry and pigments. These visions-revelations emerge in the form of scattered and layered sequences and fragments of memories of the prison exile and the confinements caused by the corona pandemic.

In this poetics of self-implosion, solitude embarks us on an introspective journey of particles and light. "And I couldn't See the Moon" plunges us in stages into Fakhri El Ghezal' singular world, which unfolds like a photo-novel or a fragmented essay film.
